Day 6 - Salamanca Market

Today we went shopping at Salamanca Market! J

We walked from Hutchins boarding house to the market. Land in Tasmania is pretty hilly, so there were a lot of uphill and downhill. This is unlike Singapore which has a more or less flat land, and this can be extremely tiring to some of us. However, every one managed to push on.

Upon reaching Salamanca Market, we were overwhelmed by the huge number of stalls in the market.

There were over 100 stalls, and they sell everything ranging from food to art crafts. One of the things that a few others and I looked forward to the most is cheese. But unfortunately, there was only one stall selling cheese and it's not cheap so we did not buy any cheese. That said, though, we did try the cheese because of the free sampling that so many stalls provided.

Salamanca Market was certainly an eye-opener for all of us because rarely do we see such a large scaled market in Singapore. Everyone had a fun time buying souvenirs for family and friends back in Singapore. Some of the art crafts were especially interesting. I personally liked a boat made from a used mouse trap. I find this very creative, turning an unwanted waste into a toy.

On top of looking for souvenirs, we also had a taste of the local delights here and a number of other food whose price is much cheaper here than in Singapore.

We arrived back at the boarding house in the afternoon. By that time, everyone was exhausted so the rest of the afternoon was spent taking a rest. We really look forward to tomorrow’s trip to Derwent Valley.
